Digha is a seaside resort city in the state of West Bengal, India. It lies in East Midnapore district and at the northern end of the Bay of Bengal. It has a low gradient with a shallow sand beach with gentle waves extending up to 7 km in length. It is the most popular sea resort in the West Bengal. Renowned for its beaches, Digha is visited by thousands of tourists every year. Digha is the nearest and most popular sea resort of West Bengal. It is mostly famous as a weekend destination for kolkatans.
Mandarmani: Mandarmani is a beach resort in Purba Medinipur
district of South Bengal, which is roughly the southern district of West
Bengal. It is almost 180km from Kolkata Airport in Kolkata, West Bengal and
just 14km from Chaulkhola. With sun and surf, pristine sea beach and
untrammeled silt colored sand; this destination is slowly becoming popular
among the tourists. Mandarmani boasts of a 13 km long motorable beach, probably
the longest motorable beach road in India. Mandarmani can be best reached by
road. The nearest railway station is Contai and the nearest airport is Kolkata.
Sankarpur: Shankarpur Is a Virgin Beach of Eastern India, and not far in
distance from Digha (approx. 14 kms). Shankarpur Fishing Harbor Project is a
great attraction for visitors. It also has highly developed beach resorts.
Buses go to Shankarpur from Dharamtala/ Esplanade bus stand in Kolkata.
Shankarpur is near Digha and can be reached by taking any bus going to Digha.
You need to get off the bus at Choddomile or Chaulkhola (14 miles in Bengali)
between Contai (Kanthi) and Digha and just before Ramnagar. The sea beach is a
15 minutes ride by car from Choddomile. You need to book a car to pick you up
from Choddomile.
Tajpur: Tajpur is the latest addition in the tourist map of Bengal.
The prime attraction of Tajpur is its pristine sea beach fringed with a dense
forest of tamarisk trees. The beach is infested with infinite number of red
crabs which play hide and seek in the sand. Their presence makes the beach look
crimson. There are fishermen’s villages in the vicinity, where one can observe
the mundane life of fisherman. Just 1 km away is a lagoon with pleasant
surroundings. Tajpur is 170 km from Kolkata. Located along the Digha-Kanthi
road, Tajpur is situated 17km away from Digha. Tajpur offers a pristine virgin
beach between Mandarmani and Shankarpur.
Talsari:A small delta on Bay of Bengal, only 6 km away
from Digha, located on Bengal-Orissa border. It is a quiet place close to both
sea and Subarnarekha River. Talsari is an unexploited beach with a backdrop of
a series of palm trees. There’s a concrete structure on the beach that serves
as a fish market in the morning. The catch from the sea is piled on the floor
before being sorted and auctioned. The fishermen return in the evening and sit
on the beach mending their nets.
Chandeneswer
Shiv Temple:Chandaneshwar is famous for a Shiva temple in Chandaneswar,
Baleswar, Orissa. Large number of pilgrims and devotees gather here all round
the year and mostly during the Chaitra Month, that is the last month of Bengali
calendar. This holy abode of Lord Shiva is 8km from Digha, at Chandaneshwar, a
small township that is a major attraction of Digha tour.
